Removals Checklist

To help you further, our experts have compiled a handy checklist full of tips and advice on all the things you should be doing in the months, weeks and days before moving home. So download our checklist today and your home removals experience is sure to be stress-free from beginning to end!

2 months before the move:

Once you have confirmed a moving date, we recommend booking time off work. Although a move can be completed in a weekend, it’s best to have a day or two either side to give you lots of time and properly settle in.
Start to collect or buy your packaging materials – cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, tape etc.
Thoroughly de-junk and de-clutter your home. Sort through your belongings and get rid of things you longer want, use or need.

6 weeks before the move:

Hire a professional removals company. We also offer secure storage facilities for any of your items or pieces of furniture which may require storing before, during or after the move.
Go through each room of your home and plan exactly what you need to take with you and where everything will go in your new property. This will make it easier for you at the other end and the removals team will be able to place your furniture and belongings in their new position.

4 weeks before the move:

Make an inventory of everything you are moving home with. This will make it much simpler for you to track everything and plan accordingly.
Start packing the items you don’t use very often and, therefore, won’t need in the next few weeks. This includes things like books, DVDs, ornaments and seasonal items.

1 week before the move:

Start packing! The week before you move home is the ideal time to pack everything except the items you will need during your final few days. Make sure everything is packed safely and securely into boxes with similar items and clearly label them – this will make unpacking in your new property much easier.
Take care with all your important or sensitive documents; pack these items in a secure box.
Begin a deep clean of your home, including cleaning the oven and defrosting the freezer.

The day before the move:

Finish any last-minute packing and pack an overnight bag with everything you will need for the next day, such as clothes and toiletries.
Make sure you keep the keys to your new home in a safe place.

The day of the move:

On moving day, most of the work can be left to your removals team. However, you can guide them round your property and let them know what needs to be done.
Before leaving, take a final look round to make sure nothing has been left behind.
Upon arrival at your new home, let the removals team know where everything needs to go. This will make unpacking and settling much quicker and easier.
Finally, once everything is done and your belongings are safely inside, the only thing left to do is enjoy your new home!
