How to Speed up the House Moving Process

Posted on by Darvills

Moving house is a drawn out affair, with many steps that need to be taken to move the process along. It can be a very frustrating time especially once you’ve found a house you love and are desperate to move in!
Darvills and Benns have assisted countless families in moving into their dream homes, and in that time have picked up some tips on speeding up the house moving process. Here we present a few ways you can ensure your move goes smoothly and quickly.

Let your solicitor know early

If you are selling your property, let your solicitor know as early as possible, preferably as soon as you tell your estate agent to put your property on the market. This gives your solicitor forewarning that the sale will be happening and allows them to prepare all of the legal documents you will need in advance, a process that could otherwise add a couple of weeks on to your wait time.

Agree your mortgage in principal

Getting your mortgage finance agreed in principle means that you will have a good idea of the kind of money you will have to spend, and it means that unless your circumstances change after your mortgage in principle has been agreed, the process can be confirmed much quicker.

Keep on top of your paperwork

When buying a property, a third party will be involved that serves to take care of all documentation that is required to make the transaction go ahead. So by keeping an organised collection of your own documents, you can ensure a speedy process when the third party requests your documents.

Keep in contact

Remaining in contact with both your agent and buyer/seller ensures that you’re not kept in the dark about how the transaction is processing, and it means that any small issues that may arise can be nipped in the bud sooner rather than later. This means that the chance of your move becoming derailed by unexpected problems is greatly reduced.

Look for ‘no chain’ buyers

A ‘no chain’ buyer means that the person interested in your property doesn’t have to wait until their own property is sold before they can purchase your home. A no chain buyer is likely to be weeks, even months quicker than a chained buyer, which means you can get out of your house and into your new home much sooner.

Once your sale has gone through

Once your sale has been finalised and you’ve officially become the homeowner, it’s likely that you’ll be itching to move in! Follow our simple steps to make moving home as quick as possible:

  • Pack early: Pack as many of your belongings as you can prior to your move, leaving only the bare basics unpacked. This means that once you receive the keys to your property, all your belongings are ready to be moved in.
  • Hire a removals company: Enlisting a professional company to move your belongings into your new home frees your time up to take care of other aspects of the move, such as any last minute cleaning you need to do to your current property before the new family moves in.
  • Decorate when moved in: If you’re really eager to get into your new home as soon as possible, move into the property as it is and take care of the decorating at a later date.
  • Book your service providers: If you need your property to be hooked up with gas, electric, water or entertainment services, book for this to take place the day before you move into your property. This will ensure that everything is set up and habitable before you get there.
