Office Relocation Checklist
24th March 2016
Office relocations are every bit as stressful as moving house, and the procedure can seem overwhelming if it’s not something you’ve done before. To help you, Darvills and Benns have used our years of experience in office and domestic moves to put together this office relocation checklist.
3 months before the move
You should have your new premises all picked out now and be beginning to make plans for the move. Use this time to set yourself a deadline date that you want to be in your new office by so you know you have to begin to put words into actions!
6 weeks before the move
Now’s the time to make steps to setting up for the move.
- Measure your new office to get a better idea of what furniture you can fit into the space
- If you’re ordering new furniture, begin to get ideas of what you’d like
4 weeks before the move
- If you need to provide your own security, approach a security firm now to do a survey
- Approach an office designer to help you make the most of your space
- Order any new furniture you’re buying
- Begin to organise some of the necessities you will need such as insurance and IT networks
- Start collecting quotes from reputable removals companies
3 weeks before the move
- Let any suppliers or services (cleaners, office supplies etc.) know your move date
- Sign your contract with your chosen security provider
- Put together a change of address notice for anyone who may need to know
- Book your removals service to ensure that they’ll be available on the day you want to move
2 weeks before the move
- Organise the installation of your broadband and phone lines for no later than next week
- If you need to redirect post or set up forwarding numbers, do that now
One week before the move
- Begin packing your office – we’d recommend you use professional packing materials that are available from your removals company to ensure that your possessions are safe throughout transit
- Have your IT company set up all of your wiring
- Get new furniture delivered to the new office
- Send out your change of address notices
- Organise a final clean of the old office
Day of the move
- Pack up any last bits (or let your removals company take care of it)
- Let the removals team do all the hard work, so you don’t have to!
