Make a Moving Resolutions List and Change Your Life for the Better
4th June 2018Moving home is the perfect time to start afresh and try to ditch old, bad habits. With a new home comes a lot of changes and, if you are motivated, these can include lifestyle changes to improve your wellbeing. As you settle into a new home and new neighbourhood, look out for ways the fresh environment can help you make a positive change and add these ideas to a resolution list. To help you on your way, this month we’ve put together some transitioning tips for getting out with the old, and in with the new.
Health resolutions
Improving your health, either from exercising, eating better or by creating opportunities for ‘me time’, is a common desire. You can help yourself by redoubling your health boosting efforts after a move in a variety of ways.
Plan meals
Getting in the habit of creating a meal plan each week is a good way to ensure you have the right amount of food – preventing wastage – and to encourage you to make healthier, homemade choices. By planning ahead, you can replace unhealthy snacks and cut back on eating quick but unhealthy ready-made meals.
Find new exercise routes
Explore your new area and look for new favourite places to enjoy. Local parks and green spaces are a great place to form a jogging or cycle route round, or even just for Sunday strolls walking the dog.
Start a herb or vegetable garden
Gardening has a whole host of health benefits and can give you some much needed ‘me time’ and exercise outdoors. What’s more, you then get the satisfaction of enjoying the fruits of your labour with healthy, fresh produce.
Social resolutions
Making time to spend with family and friends is sure to bring you happiness and, after a move, will be a great way to relax and ground you through all the upheaval.
Create an entertaining space (according to how you like to socialise)
Think about how you most enjoy spending time with friends – for example, do you like a casual catch up over a coffee or hosting dinner parties of large groups of friends? Make sure you create space in your new home to accommodate your preferences – whether that’s a couple of comfy armchairs or a grand dining table – and then you will be well set to spend your free time doing what you love.
Start up an evening class
It is easy to get in a rut of staying in and watching TV every evening but to add some interest to your evenings, why not take up a fun evening class? Particularly if you’ve moved to a new area, this can be a great way to socialise and make new friends. From crafts to fitness classes, look into what your new area has to offer.
Spend more time with the kids
Kids grow up fast so spending special, dedicated time with them is fun and precious. Work out activities you could do together that you’ll both enjoy. From finding a new hobby to enjoy together to monthly movie trips or even just reading to them at bedtime, this will always be time well spent.
Work resolutions
Whether you’ve moved jobs along with your house move or you just want to make improvements to your current work situation, let your recent relocation reinvigorate your working life too.
Get to work early
By getting to work as little as 10 minutes early each day, you’ll set yourself up right. The extra time will allow you to get a good start or even just let you settle down with a coffee before the bustle of the day begins.
Learn a new skill
If you don’t challenge yourself in your job, you can easily get stuck in a repetitive daily schedule of work. Add some variety to your day by branching out and learning a new skill – for example, take an online course or spend time learning about another department. This could be something which can improve your work and which your boss will be impressed by, or just something you’ve been wanting to try out and which will be beneficial for your personal development.
