What day should you move house?4th November 2017
The actual process of moving house can feel like a gargantuan task and anything that can make this easier and less stressful makes for welcome advice. One aspect to give thought to is the day you move house. The timing of your move can actually influence many factors, including price and availability of removals companies, disruption to your everyday schedule and ease of money transfers. This month, we’ll be considering when is the best time to move for the smoothest and most efficient of relocations.
Holidays, particularly those that coincide with when schools are out of term, are always particularly popular times to move house. For this reason, you can guarantee that all services related to moving house – for example, estate agents and removals companies – are going to be rushed off their feet at these times. If you can plan your move away from big holidays, you can find availability and prices are more favourable.
Day of month
Mid month is generally one of the quieter times to move and so if you want to avoid the masses, this is a good time to relocate. Many people like to move at the end of the month as they wait out the end of their current contract or tenancy agreement. However, if you can complete before the last few days of the month, you can find that mortgage money and such transfers go through quicker and easier, making for a less stressful experience.
The midweek move
Friday is a clear winner when it comes to the most popular day of the week to move. The idea that you have the weekend to unpack and that you don’t have to take much time off from work make Fridays an attractive choice. However, many other people will also have considered these benefits and so Friday moves are in high demand. For example, removals companies will be booked up well in advance for Fridays and you may find that prices are higher too.
For improved availability, better potential deals and more dedicated time from everyone involved in helping you move, a weekday can be the way to go. Realistically, you aren’t going to completely unpack over one weekend anyway and if you’re smart, you can still get all the crucial bits done in just one day off work. What’s more, if you run into problems and you move on a Friday, you may have to wait until Monday for help from your solicitor or tradespeople whereas on any other weekday, you could get the problem solved the next day.
Time of day
No matter when you decide to move, you want to ensure you get going as soon as possible. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and are up early, ready to get going. Moving always takes longer than you expect and the earlier you start, the earlier you can get settled into your new home!
