When organising a big move, you will likely need a removal company to help you out. Many people underestimate the sheer amount of stuff they have that needs to be moved, and the amount of physical exertion this will require. Removals companies will literally do the heavy lifting for you and help your move go as smoothly as possible. However, you will want to make sure the removals company you choose is reputable, careful and professional. To make sure you know what to look out for (and what to avoid!), we have put together a useful list of dos and don\u2019ts for finding a removals company. <\/span><\/p>\n

Get a written quote<\/span>: make sure you get a quote for the job in writing. This should break down and explain the estimate clearly, covering all separate costs, for example their hourly rate, costs for insurance, packing, mileage etc. If the quote you get is merely verbal, you run the risk of extra charges being added without warning and you won\u2019t have proof of the initial estimate to back you up. <\/span><\/p>\n

Shop around<\/span>: get a few quotes – at least 3 – before you decide upon a moving company. You will get a better idea of what you can get for your money and the different services available. Keep in mind that the cheapest option isn\u2019t necessarily best; make sure you check what services are included in the quote and that the company seems reputable. <\/span><\/p>\n

Be accurate and honest<\/span>: when providing a removals company with lists and descriptions of your belongings, be as accurate as possible. This will allow the company to give you a realistic quote for the work, avoiding additional costs being necessary later. <\/span><\/p>\n

Read reviews<\/span>: reviews from customers who have actually used a company\u2019s services can be a reliable source of information. Look through as many reviews as you can to get an impression of the company and the service they have offered to others. Also, make a note of where you find the reviews – are they on trusted sites?<\/span><\/p>\n

Check credentials<\/span>: a company\u2019s credentials can be helpful when trying to ascertain their dependability and reputation. Try and find out if the company is well-established – companies with a long history are likely to be respectable and providers of high standard work. Other positive signs are a good company website and having membership with the British Association of Removers or National Guild of Removers. <\/span><\/p>\n
